I learnt yesterday that Nick Halsted died in 22nd September this year.
Nick was a former president of the British Fencing Association - perhaps one of its finest - who made a magnificent contribution to our sport both as a fencer and as a leader.
He was a wonderful individual and as a recipient of the Salle Medal of Appreciation was well regarded by many of the Salle's former members.
I shall remember him for his stalwart support at a time of great need and for his "champagne" generosity at the end of our very first 24 hour London Fencing Marathon. He would have been so delighted with out latest efforts on the piste.
Members, particularly the newer one, should take note of his name to ensure that his efforts are committed to memory. Edmund Gibbons [ed@bkgroup.co.uk] New Year
Though I haven't yet set the new subscription rates I intend to keep them unchanged until 1st November after which I may/will increase them by some £10 each.
We would like to say thank you to all those who took part in this years 24 hr fencing marathon, it looks as if we raised a fantastic £4000 for the Anaemia Trust. This would not have been possible without all the suport from the fencers, everyone envolved in the organisation and the St Joseph's College authorities. Thanks again
Lottery Grant
The Salle has secured a further Grant of £4,038 from the Lottery Fund to enable it to replace existing kit with kit meeting new safety standards and to underpin our coaching base.
The Salle is grateful to the Lottery Fund for its continued support
